Beginning Thursday, August 29, 2019 and continuing into the Labor Day weekend, the Irmo Police Department will intensify their efforts to crack down on drunk driving. This crackdown is part of a national “Drive Sober or get Pulled Over” campaign. The goal of this campaign is to reduce the number of crashes and fatalities caused by motorists driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
During this campaign, the Irmo Police Department will be conducting a Public Safety Checkpoint and increased patrols within the Town of Irmo. The public safety checkpoint will take place on Chadford Road this Thursday, August 29, 2019. Increased patrols are being set up on other major roads within our neighborhoods and along Broad River Road, Lake Murray Boulevard, St. Andrews Road and North Lake Drive.
Officers will be conducting the checkpoint in response to collision incidents, traffic complaints, and previous enforcement in this area. Officers will be checking driver’s licenses, vehicle registration, and insurance and looking for signs of impairment.
The Irmo Police Department is committed to providing a safer town through education and enforcement.
