And evidently, so do most of you.  Last week I received an email from ChamberofCommerce.org (not Irmo Chamber of Commerce) where Irmo is ranked 10th Best City to Live In in South Carolina.  10Th out of 269 municipalities.  Irmo is also listed at niche.com as #1 Best Place to Live in the Columbia area, #3 Best Place to Live in South Carolina, #3 Best Suburb to Live in South Carolina, and #1 Best Place to Live and Best Suburb in Richland County.  Wow!  If you go to niche.com, lots of high rankings in many  different categories. Worth taking a look at.

All these to back up what I said in last week’s Letter to the Editor.  Irmo is, a great place to live, and not just coming from me, but two independent sources.  Niche also has lots of comments from people from the Irmo community. Their comments are what you already know, and have known. Some might even be your neighbors comments, or yours.

But why did I write last week’s Letter to the Editor, and this one as well? I believe you need to know, and especially now when some like to make comments on social media pages, or at council meetings about how bad living in Irmo is. Even trying to use TV as a way of promoting what they think or believe is bad. Trying their best to put Irmo in a bad light. That is sad, and also evidently not true or believed by most.

As I said last week, it is an election year here in Irmo, and that is part of their political agenda, putting Irmo in a bad light, trying to make Irmo look bad. But the facts are we are #1 Best Place to Live in the Columbia and Richland County areas, #3 Best Place to live in South Carolina, and 10th Best City in the State to live.

So even though a few naysayers say what they say, you and I and many others say differently. In years past Irmo has been ranked as one of the most affordable places to live in South Carolina, and 15th safest city in SC in 2018, and in top 20 in 2015 and 2017.

Irmo is also in Lexington Richland School District Five which is consistently ranked one of the top school districts in the state. From the elementary schools to the high schools that our students attend are always ranked, receiving awards and recognition, for being some of the best in the state and in the nation.

Irmo is conveniently located along Interstate 26, connecting us quickly to Charleston, to the South Carolina Coast, to the Upstate, to the mountains, Asheville, the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Appalachian Trail, just in case.  We’re on the shore of Lake Murray, convenient to Columbia, Lexington, Congaree Swamp, the Broad River, Saluda River, Congaree River, South Carolina Palmetto Trails, Fort Jackson, the South Carolina Coast, Saluda Shoals Park, Lake Murray Fireworks and Boat Parade, and three beautiful parks right here in the Town of Irmo – our Veterans/Memorial Park, our original Irmo Town Park, and home to the Irmo Okra Strut, our Irmo Community Park.

I say it again, Irmo IS a great place to live.

They can say what they want, but I say …

I’m proud to live in Irmo.
