EdVenture and the National Weather Service (NWS) are teaming up for Weatherfest 2017 at EdVenture this Saturday, March 11, from 10 am until 3 pm.

Weatherfest will bring the public and local meteorologists and emergency officials together for a weather and preparedness event.

Visitors will have the opportunity to learn how a variety of organizations increase community severe weather awareness, preparedness and response. NWS staff members, local media and TV meteorologists, emergency officials and several public service organizations will be available all day providing demonstrations and educational materials for adults and children. Families will explore the role of a meteorologist and will practice giving their own weather reports in front of a green screen.

A panel discussion will be held with meteorologists from local television stations, the National Weather Service, SC State Climate Office and Shaw Air Force Base. The moderated discussion, entitled “Ask the Experts” will focus on career paths, notable weather events, weather safety, and challenges in the industry. The panel will also field questions from the audience. Several organizations will be on hand to provide weather related materials and emergency preparedness questions.

The museum will open at 9 am with weather-related crafts and activities begin at 10 am The media sponsor for the event is WIS TV. For a full schedule, see the event listing on EdVenture’s website, www.edventure.org.
