Girls volleyball and tennis teams in Lexington Richland School District Five are getting ready to start the 2017 varsity season, with other teams soon to follow.
Dutch Fork’s volleyball teams get the new regular season started next week with two games. The Silver Foxes are to visit South Aiken on Tuesday, and then play host to Fort Mill on Wednesday. Junior varsity teams play first at 5:30 pm, and the varsity teams follow with their own game.
Chapin kicks off the varsity volleyball season on Wednesday, next week, when the Eagles visit White Knoll in their only regular season game in the first week of the new campaign.
Then the Yellow Jackets get the volleyball season going on Thursday when the Fairfield Griffins visit the Irmo gym, and they will follow with the Orangeburg multi-team tournament on Saturday, according to fearthestingihs.org.
All three District Five varsity volleyball teams made the playoffs last year, and they all bowed out in the first round by the same score; 3-0. It was Irmo versus 5A state runner-up Wando, Dutch Fork versus James Island and Chapin against North Myrtle Beach in the first round.
And they are all back this year, playing to take their seasons as far as it can go.
At the same time, the District Five girls tennis teams will also be winding up the new season.
Dutch Fork and Chapin are to start the new season in a District Five matchup on Tuesday, with the junior varsity squads playing at Chapin at 5 pm, and the varsity teams starting at 6 pm at Dutch Fork High School.
Irmo plans to get the Yellow Jacket season started the following week, on Thursday, August 31 in a non-region match at Aiken.
All other teams are expected to start the new season in the final week of August or early September.
