Welcomes testimony from affected ratepayers and interested parties
The House Utility Ratepayer Protection Committee (HURPC) will hold its third hearing tomorrow, Tuesday, September 26, 2017, as the group continues to work towards developing a viable plan forward in response to the VC Summer suspension.
The Committee is chaired by Representative Peter McCoy (District 115-Charleston) and includes 19 other House members from various districts who represent constituencies covered by SCE&G and Santee Cooper. The HURPC was created in August in response to the VC Summer nuclear project suspension. Speaker Lucas has directed the group to comprehensively study the issue to determine a responsible path forward that best protects South Carolina’s ratepayers.
Because ratepayers have paid over $2 billion dollars as a result of nine rate increases for the failed VC Summer nuclear project and over 5,000 hardworking people have lost their jobs, the HURPC believes that designating time to hear from those affected is crucial and necessary. Chairman Peter McCoy has called for a hearing tomorrow to allow the public to express their grievances.
The meeting will be Tuesday, September 26th at 10:30AM in room 110 of the Blatt Building, State House grounds.
