The tradition continues as Union United Methodist Church presents the 22nd annual “The Living Christmas Story” drive-through nativity Friday through Sunday, December 4-6, from 6:30 to 9 pm each night. “The Living Christmas Story” will offer a dramatic sight and sound re-creation of Bethlehem and other Biblical scenes associated with the birth of Jesus. Each night 200 cast members and live animals will bring to life the 18 scenes in the1/4 mile drive.
Visitors can drive through a reenactment of life as it might have been in the town of Bethlehem over 2000 years ago and see the synagogue, the market, the village well, and people searching for a room while Roman soldiers stand guard.
The free pageant includes traditional scenes from the Bible such as Gabriel’s visit to Mary, the angels’ message to the shepherds, the Wise Men’s visit with Herod, and the stable where the Christ child was born.
The church is located at 7582 Woodrow Street in Irmo. A gift from the church members to the community, there is no admission charge to the event. Visitors in cars and other vehicles will be directed down the road to “Bethlehem” after turning onto the church grounds. Church vans and institutional vehicles are given priority in line and should park in the lot on St. Andrews Road across from the church. Visitors to Bethlehem can also choose to park their vehicle across the street from the church near the shopping center sign and ride one of the church vans which will make regular trips through the 18 scenes before bringing passengers back to their cars.
