In the district, Dutch Fork kicked off the Region 5-5A varsity football games with a big win, Irmo suffered its first loss of the season, and Chapin won big in its final non-region game of the regular season.

With Dutch Fork’s 49-9 victory over River Bluff the Silver Foxes returned to action after an early season of stops and starts because of a vacant date week and a canceled game versus Goose Creek due to an anticipated threat to the lowcounty by the recent Hurricane Irma. They improved to 2-1, 1-0 with the win at Silver Fox Stadium.

The Foxes will go out on the road this week — but not too far — when they travel to play Westwood in a non-region matchup. The Redhawks defeated Blythewood two weeks ago to stand at 3-1 overall, with a loss to only Westside, thus far.

Friday’s game at Westwood is to get started at 7:30 pm.

Irmo opened its Region 5-5A run last week with its first loss of the season to stand at 4-1, 0-1 as the Yellow Jackets prepare for this week’s conference game against Lexington. The Wildcats (3-2, 0-1) lost their region opener to Spring Valley last week.

In last week’s 21-7 loss to Blythewood, it was all-Bengals in the first half as the Jackets were down 21-0 at the half. After intermission, Irmo held Blythewood scoreless and scored two TD’s of its own, but the second was nullified due to a holding call.

Friday’s game at W. C. Hawkins Stadium will be Irmo’s Homecoming Night, with the Wildcats visiting for the event. Game time is set for 7:30 pm.

Chapin defeated Brookland-Cayce last week 38-20 at BC in the Eagles’ final non-region contest of the regular season, and they will have a vacant date this week before starting Region 5-4A games next week against Dreher. Chapin improved to 3-2 with last week’s victory, which broke a recent two-game downslide.
