The Irmo Police Department in conjunction with the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department participated in a youth program called the Summer Adventure Squad which brought young people in low income housing and local law enforcement together throughout the summer months.
The program is geared toward building better community relations and during the program, officers assisted Park Rangers from the Saluda Shoals Park with several events including fishing, live animal presentation, outdoor skills, canoeing/kayaking, and river tubing.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity for these children,” said Irmo Police Chief Don Perry. “We are really looking forward to doing more next summer.”
The grand finale included a day at the Owens Airfield in Columbia, where Deputy/Pilot David Nieves took the kids up for flight to see a different perspective of the Midlands.
