Southeastern Freight Lines has announced Michael Owings has been promoted to director of corporate planning.

Owings has served as assistant director within the Corporate Planning Department since 2009, playing a role in designing and managing system projects that span departments and allow Southeastern to integrate with external resources.

With more than 16 years of experience with the Southeastern, Owings has advanced his career from the company’s first database administrator, holding positions as software engineer and senior software engineer. He helped drive several of the legacy systems, such as Synergy and Driver CDU, to completion.

“During his time with Southeastern, Owings has become a black belt at managing complex projects and is also effective at educating our customers on the latest technologies,” said Woody Lovelace, senior vice president of corporate planning & development, Southeastern Freight Lines. “Michael understands our company’s mission and we are confident he will find continued success in his new role.”

Owings graduated with a degree in computer science and sociology from Furman University, where he also played football for four years. Owings lives in Columbia, South Carolina, with his wife, Nila, and four sons.
