Upsilon Omega Omega, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. partners with End Child Hunger SC to protect children and families against hunger.
According to a 2015 report published by Feeding America, 27 % of children in South Carolina struggle with hunger. Lexington and Richland Counties, The City of Columbia and the Town of Irmo proclaimed Sunday, October 25th through Saturday, October 31st as End of Childhood Hunger Week. This week brought increased awareness of childhood hunger in the Midlands area.
Members of the Upsilon Omega Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Incorporated, Irmo, South Carolina, and their Debutantes and Ladies in Waiting assisted with the packing over 67,000 meal packs at Irmo High School on Sunday, October 25, 2015. These meals will provide essential nourishment for families in the state of South Carolina. Upsilon Omega Omega, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Inc. of Irmo, SC, has partnered with End Child Hunger SC as well as individuals and members of many organizations to actively fight against childhood hunger.
Upsilon Omega Omega, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Inc., of Irmo, South Carolina also purchased, packed and delivered numerous produce boxes that contain fresh fruits and vegetables to families in the Midlands. On Wednesday, October 28th, 2015, members distributed fifty-four (54) boxes of fresh food to students and families at Pine Grove, H.B. Rhame, and Seven Oaks Elementary schools. Members of Upsilon Omega Omega also collected food items to prepare Thanksgiving baskets to deliver to students and families in the Midlands area. Upsilon Omega Omega continues to advocate against childhood hunger and work on initiatives to strengthen families and promote hunger awareness.
