River’s Edge Retreat, a summer camp for underprivileged midlands children, will hold its fourth annual Christmas Around the World dinner on December 7 from 7 to 10 pm at the Brookland Life Center in West Columbia.
The proceeds will be returning to the camp as scholarship funds for children to enter the program at no cost. Additionally, funds will go towards updating amenities at the retreat.
“Our mission is to change lives, no matter one’s financial or social status, through inspiring hope and reflecting the love of God,” said founder Steve Ware. The retreat acts as a summer haven for disadvantaged youth in the Midlands. Over the course of 10 weeks, the children who attend the camp are exposed to everything from team building experiences on a ropes course to scripture-based daily activities.
The Christmas fundraising dinner was held for the first time in 2015 as a means of collecting donations for the operations at River’s Edge Retreat. Last year the event drew a record number of guests and raised the most money in its history.
“This fundraiser allows our guests to change a homeless child’s life,” said Ware.
