In light of multiple incidents involving citizens being lured into locations to become victims of crime Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott is reminding citizens about the RCSD Exchange Safety Zones.

Exchange Safety Zones are public locations for those who sell, purchase, and or exchange items via social media; one common usage being Craigslist, or Angie’s List; the Safe Zones are also for child drop off/pick up for those who are co-parenting. The Richland County Sheriff’s Department has placed “Internet Exchange Safety Zone” signs at five of its eight regions throughout Richland County.

Safe Zones can be used as a neutral location and secure place when meeting with strangers where deputies are located for their safety.

Sheriff Leon Lott also encourages those who are co-parenting to use the safe zones; parents will have a more convenient way in establishing a meeting location that’s best for all parties involved.
