Randy Jones accepts the Commissioner Emeritus plaque from Larry Slaughter, Chairman of the Okra Strut Commission.

Professional Photographer Randy Jones has had good days and bad days fighting for his life against throat cancer. Tuesday, June 11 was a good day. Randy was honored by the Irmo Okra Strut Commission, the governing body of the 46-year-old Okra Strut Festival, to be designated as Commissioner Emeritus. In a presentation members of the Commission hung a plaque in Irmo Town Hall recognizing this appointment.

“Randy is a tireless, unselfish worker in many community organizations, including the Irmo Okra Strut. No one contributed more to the festival’s success,” said Larry Slaughter, Chairman of the Okra Strut Commission.

Following years of service as a volunteer with the Lexington Medical Center Irmo Okra Strut Festival, Randy Jones was elected to serve as a Commissioner with the festival organizers. As Commissioner, Randy coordinated amusement vendors, spearheaded marketing and advertising and served as the event photographer.

Randy had worked the ‘strut’ for nearly 20 years but stepped away from the Commission due to his health concerns. Randy helped found a professional photography studio in Irmo called Studio 3P located at 5A Thames Valley. Randy was appreciative of the presentation.
