A political newcomer, Mike Ward, has announced that he is running for the office of Mayor in Irmo, SC. Ward filed his paperwork with the town on August 16, 2019. Later that evening he made a public announcement through his Facebook Page, “Mike Ward for Mayor Irmo SC”.

While this is Ward’s first run in political office, he’s apparently no stranger to leadership roles. Ward has been honing his leadership skills as President of a local Toastmasters International club, District President with the SC PTA Board, a coordinator of the Junior Bible Quiz ministry at his church, and recently co-authored a book on entrepreneurship titled Maverick Entrepreneur’s Million Dollar Strategies. He even attended and completed the Non-Profit Leadership Institute at Francis Marion University. Ward stated, “I believe I have the leadership skills and experience to lead our town into a new time, while keeping our Southern, small town charm.”

Mike Ward is a local entrepreneur who is a licensed Health and Life insurance agent and does technology training for groups and individuals. Ward also claims his experiences as an entrepreneur provide him a great deal of practiced skills that he believes a good leader needs. He explained that his experiences as an entrepreneur since 2006 have given him a unique perspective on problem solving and working with others for mutually beneficial solutions to problems. He also said, “First and foremost, I will make sure that as we govern the town, we respect the rights of the people. We have to put people first. I plan to work hard to ensure that the town is always looking at the big picture when we make moves. I will work to improve our ordinances to help our town grow in intelligent ways. I will work to bring more events to our town for our community to enjoy.”
