The South Carolina Human Affairs Commission will hold a Mother Emanuel Nine Day Remembrance June 4 at 11 am.
Keynote speaker will be The Right Reverend Samuel L. Greene, Sr., Presiding Prelate Seventh Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. The event is presented by Allen University, the University of South Carolina based South Carolina Collaborative on Race and Reconciliation, and the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary.
The event will be held in the Chappelle Auditorium on the campus of Allen University at 1530 Harden Street, Columbia.
Allen University will share a brief litany. The university, an institution affiliated with the AME church, lost three alumni, Reverend Clementa Pinckney, Reverend Daniel Simmons and Tywanza Sanders, from the shooting. The Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary (LTSS) will offer prayers for peace. LTSS also bereaved by the loss of two of their alumni, Reverend Pinckney and Reverend Simmons. The University of South Carolina (UofSC) lost one alumni Cynthia Hurd and the UofSC Chief Diversity Officer will present the first annual Emanuel Lives commemorative award.
The event is free and open to the public.
