Horace Mann’s David Stanley and Associates donated $500 to the District Five Dance Marathon (D5DM).
The annual D5DM brings together elementary, intermediate, and middle school students in School District Five to spend a day dancing and raising money for a good cause. All proceeds benefit Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital, specifically the Child Life Program.
“Horace Mann has a long history of supporting schools,” said David Stanley. “Our hearts and souls are with District Five and Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital. Both serve our community so well. I know first-hand the positive impact great schools and great hospitals have on our community.”
In addition to his donation, David Stanley issued a challenge to the schools to see which will have the highest percentage of participants in the D5DM. Horace Mann will pay for an ice cream for every student and staff in the winning school.
“David Stanley of Horace Mann has been one of our most loyal and generous supporters of the District Dance Marathon,” D5DM Volunteer Coordinator Vanessa Torres said. “He not only gives a large financial donation, but this year, to boost participation, he is going to give an ice cream party for all students and faculty in the school that shows the most participation in the event. We love David Stanley. He has a special heart for the Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital, that helped his grandchild in a crisis situation and saved his grandchild’s life.”
The District Five Dance Marathon will be held February 18 at Seven Oaks Park Gymnasium. It begins at 10:30 am for elementary students and 1 pm for intermediate and middle school students. At 12:30 pm, there will be a Mascot Dance-Off featuring Cocky from the University of South Carolina, Blowie from Lexington County Blowfish Baseball, Mason from the Columbia Fireflies, the Chick-fil-A cow, the four District Five high school mascots, and other local business mascots. The Miracle Network Dance Marathon program spans North America benefitting hundreds of hospitals and children in the United States and Canada.
