South Carolina, especially the Midlands, will continue for many more months to recover from the devastating rains and flooding of the weekend of October 5, 2015. Many roads and bridges need to be repaired or replaced. One constant in the midst of all the confusion, pain and loss is that folks are caring for each other. We can see the phrase “walk with me” played out in thousands of ways, some literal and some symbolic. Here is how the great songwriter and poet, King David of ancient Israel, said it. He was addressing God. Knowing that people are walking with us is good, but knowing that God is with us is great. He is faithful, wise and powerful.

“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” Psalm 23:4 (ESV)

Because we have our Lord walking with us, it is very important how we walk. We want to honor Him. Unfortunately we are hearing some reports of thievery, lying on aid applications and similar evil behavior. But these seem to be relatively few in number. It appears that the Christian principles of honesty and integrity are showing themselves to be deeply rooted in the lives of the majority. It is hoped that such principles will continue to win the day.

“…walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God.” Colossians 1:10 (ESV)

As we lean on God through His Word and His people we will be able to bear the good fruit that is so beneficial. Our influence may be much greater than we have dreamed.

Happy walking with others in bad times and good.
