The newly constructed Irmo Wellness Center held a Grand Opening on Tuesday, August 20 at 7182 Woodrow Street in Irmo. The event was sponsored by the Greater Irmo Chamber of Commerce and celebrated the opening of Irmo’s newest and unique medical center.

Dr. Surb Guram began his practice in the Irmo community in 1986 as an independent medical practice separated from the large hospital corporations in the area. Dr. Joseph Gabriel began with SC Internal Medicine in 2002 as a partner with Dr. Guram. Doctors Gabriel and Guram, with the addition of Dr. Dan Methuselah (Columbia Podiatry), joined together to build the Irmo Wellness Center.

“South Carolina Internal Medicine Associates is literally about the last primary care practice not owned by one of the two big hospital systems here in this community,” said Dr. Gabriel. “We believe very strongly that independent physicians can provide much better care at a much lower cost than the big hospitals offer.”

The goal for SC Internal Medicine is to provide as many services possible under one roof. And with the opening of the Irmo Wellness Center that goal is in sight. “We wanted to provide a really state of the art facility here for patients where we have all of the services that they may need such as laboratory, sleep center, imaging services and even referrals to specialists such as ear, nose and throat, podiatry, physical therapy, or cardiology services,” Dr. Gabriel said. “We are always looking to expand our services so certainly in the future we will continue to add more providers to our practice and to what we can offer.”

Irmo Wellness Center now has the space to do just that. The facility offers the latest in treatments and patient care and cost is about one third of what you would pay in a hospital. “We can provide much more responsive care for our patients at a fraction of the cost,” said Dr. Gabriel.

Irmo Wellness Center is unique in another way in that they offer ‘walk-ins’ where you can literally go to the office and be seen by a physician wthout an appointment. This convenience is all part of what is essential to a patients entire health care experience.

“We plan on continuing to be part of Irmo’s future,” said Dr. Gabriel. “That is why we invested in this building so that we can serve the people here for at least another 50 or 60 years.”

The building was a successfully developed, high profile design/build through Mashburn Construction. The architect was Wes Taylor, AIA of LTC Associates Architecture. Civil engineering was provided Dan Creed of Heritage Engineering Inc. of Blythewood. The project assistance and leasing was provided by William Danielson, KPR and Associates.
