The Irmo Police Department brought a little joy and happiness this holiday season when they provided 20 families in the area to ‘Shop with a Cop’. The program raises money for families that would find it difficult to provide presents at Christmas time by letting them shop with police officers at a local retail outlet.

The funds come from private donations and from the police officers themselves who are given extra incentives when they contribute. If you see extra hairy officers around Irmo it’s because of that incentive.

“We allow our officers to grow facial hair for as long as they contribute to the program,” said Captain Dennis of the Irmo Police Department.

The funds are organized each year by Hamed Javad who is the Irmo Police Department Community Foundation President.
