After the severe flooding that took place in the Irmo/ St. Andrews area in October, a church has gifted the Irmo Fire District a swift water rescue boat.
The boat is a lightweight inflatable rescue boat made by Zodiac and powered by Yamaha. The gift also included $9,000 worth of swift water rescue equipment. Rescue technician level training and boat operations will begin in March on the Saluda river.
IFD covers the lower Saluda river from the dam to the Interstate 20 (6 miles) including Saluda Shoals park which is popular for fishing canoeing and kayaking year round. The district also covers several ponds, and several miles of shoreline on Lake Murray.
