Mayor Hardy King holds up the Arbor Day Proclamation designating December 7 as the official Arbor Day in the Town of Irmo. The town planted 4 young trees which included a bald cypress and three Drake elms in honor of the day.

Arbor Day is observed internationally but was first observed with the planting of more than a million trees in Nebraska in1872.
