The Irmo Town Council Tuesday gave first reading approval to the annexation of two tracts of land on Dreher Shoals Road.

Town officials said the tracts, one of them 28 acres and the other 20 acres, will be developed as residential areas in the future.

The council also approved a rezoning of a two lots on Salem Church Road adjacent to the railroad tracks from Fringe Agriculture to General Commercial. The tract is already surrounded by commercial businesses.

In other action the council approved providing funds from the town’s Victim’s Advocacy Account not to exceed $5,000.  The council directed the police chief and the town administrator to select the recipient of the funds but several council and staff members expressed support for the Sister Care program.

“They help people who don’t have anything,” said Irmo Police Chief Don Perry.

The council gave second reading approval to an updated Comprehensive Plan for the town of Irmo, which projects a continued population growth in the Irmo area.

The council also approved a Mutual Aid Agreement with the North Myrtle Beach Police Department which enables the town to help provide police assistance during biker week activities in the beach area.
