Jim Wellman of Lexington and Don Adkins of Seneca have been appointed president and vice president, respectively, of the South Carolina Barbecue Association (SCBA). SCBA co-founders Lake High and Walter Rolandi made the announcement at a recent SCBA event.

Wellman has been serving as the SCBA treasurer and as a board member. He is an SCBA-certified master judge and also coordinates the SCBA’s “Judges on Call” squad, a group of highly experienced judges who offer their expertise at specialty events beyond barbecue competitions.

Adkins also serves on the SCBA board and is an SCBA certified master judge. Additionally, he is a district marshal for the upstate, overseeing SCBA-sanctioned events in that area.

Founded in 2004, the SCBA has certified more than 800 judges for barbecue competitions. The SCBA works with more than 30 local and regional festivals, fairs and other events each year to officially sanction their barbecue competitions, provide certified judges and attract championship-level barbecue cookers. Trainings and seminars for prospective barbecue judges and those who wish to progress to the master level are held throughout the year.
