Another elected official from the Midlands has been charged with DUI.
Richland County Councilman Kelvin Washington has been charged with felony driving under the influence in connection with a crash Saturday on Bluff Road in Hopkins.
Washington struck a vehicle in front of him as both vehicles were traveling east, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol. The 22-year-old driver of the other vehicle was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries, and another passenger, along with Washington, were transported with minor injuries, according to the patrol.
Last month Washington and former Columbia City Councilman Bryan DeQuincey Newman were charged with tax evasion.
Lexington Solicitor Donnie Myers, 70, was arrested by the South Carolina Highway Patrol February 22 for driving under the influence. It was the second time he has faced a DUI charge. In 2005 he pleaded guilty to a similar charge. In 2012, he was charged with having an open container of alcohol is his car.
The latest charge has prompted calls for his resignation.
An experienced prosecutor with the State Grand Jury, Larry Wedekind, has already announced he will seek Myers’ post.
