With Dutch Fork’s 55-10 win against Chapin in last week’s first round game, the Silver Foxes became the only District Five varsity football team still standing in the playoffs.

Dutch Fork improved its overall record to 10-0-1 with the win, after completing the region games undefeated. Chapin competed the season at 4-7 overall and 1-3 in the region, and Irmo (3-7, 1-3) did not make the playoffs this year.

Next up for the Silver Foxes will be Wando’s visit on Friday after the Warriors (8-3, 3-2) defeated Conway 30-21 last week to advance to the second round against Dutch Fork. Wando finished third in Region 7-5A behind Goose Creek and Berkeley, and all three of them have now advanced to the second round. Fourth place Cane Bay was eliminated in last week’s first round.

Along with Dutch Fork out of Region 5-5A, No. 2 River Bluff has advanced to play at Carolina Forest this week, while, along with Chapin, region mate No. 3 Lexington was eliminated by Fort Dorchester in last week’s game.

The winner of Friday’s second round at Dutch Fork will advance to next week’s third round — aka quarterfinal round — against this week’s winner of the Fort Dorchester versus Berkeley game. Then the winners there will advance to the semifinal round — or lower state championship game.

The Class 5A state finals game is set for noon on December 7 at USC’s Williams Brice Stadium.
