Dutch Fork’s varsity football team will be playing for its third consecutive state championship this weekend, but on Friday, not Saturday, as originally scheduled.

Because of the probability of inclement weather – possibly to include snow or frozen precipitation – late in the week, all of the football state finals games will be played on Friday. Class 4A teams will play at 1 pm, Class 3A at 4 pm and Dutch Fork and T. L. Hanna will play for the Class 5A state title at 7:30 pm, all on Friday at USC’s Williams Brice Stadium.

All other football state finals contests originally scheduled for Friday remain as scheduled in place and time, according to the South Carolina High School League (SCHSL).

The League explains that, as always, the safety and well-being of the student-athletes – as well as coaching staff, parents and fans – is of paramount importance. With there being a greater possibility of foul weather in the upstate area, those people could be much more adversely affected in terms of travel safety.

So, the Silver Foxes will play for the state title Friday at 7:30 pm at Williams Brice Stadium.

With last week’s 47-14 win at Summerville, the two-time defending state champion Silver Foxes won the lower state title and advanced to the varsity football state finals for the third straight year and the sixth time since the 2012-2013 finals.

The only year Dutch Fork did not make the finals during that span of time was the 2015-2016 finals, and all of those trips to state have occurred since Dutch Fork Athletics Director and Head Football Coach Tom Knotts took the helm of the Silver Fox program.

Dutch Fork defeated Dorman by one point (28-27) last year for the title, and the Foxes have also faced Boiling Springs, Hillcrest, Sumter and Gaffney in the finals game.

T.L. Hanna (TLH) defeated Byrnes 57-28 last week to win the upper state title and advance to the game versus Dutch Fork. The Silver Foxes are undefeated at 12-0, and the TLH Yellow Jackets are undefeated at 14-0.

It’s not every year that we arrive at the state championship game with two undefeated teams, but we now have one coming up Friday at 7:30 pm, and it features one of our own hometown teams; the Dutch Fork Silver Foxes.
