Dutch Fork’s varsity basketball teams completed their seasons last week in the second round of the Class 5A state playoffs, with both of them taking their seasons further than last year.

The Silver Fox girls (11-11, 7-5) played as the No. 4 seed out of Region 5-5A and they upset Wando (19-5, 12-2), a No. 2 seed, 43-42 to advance to last Friday’s second round at Conway, a No. 1 seed now set to contend for the lower state title this weekend. That is where Dutch Fork completed its season in a loss to the Tigers (17-6, 8-2).

Dutch Fork’s girls bowed out in the first round last year after a loss to Sumter, the eventual state runner-up behind Spring Valley.

The Dutch Fork varsity boys (16-9, 8-4) also took their season to the second round this year before ending it in a loss at Goose Creek last Saturday. The Silver Foxes, a Region 5-5A No. 3 seed, defeated Conway 63-57 in Round One before taking the 56-49 second round loss to the Gators late last week.

Last year the Fox boys, playing as a No. 4 seed, also completed their season in the first round against Sumter.

To wrap up the winter athletics season, the individuals state wrestling finals are this weekend at the Anderson Civic Center, and then it’s all spring sports for the Dutch Fork Silver Foxes.
