King was the first to file his paperwork to run for Mayor, and the only candidate with actual hands-on experience. He has served as President of the Lexington County Municipal Association in 2013 and currently 2019, Vice Chairman St. Paul AME Community Center, Board Member of Atlantic Institute, served in past as deacon, elder; volunteered with the Personal Touch at Palmetto Baptist and United Way of the Midlands Allocation Committee. Only Irmo Mayor or Candidate to have graduated from the Municipal Association of South Carolina Elected Officials Institute, and currently obtaining the Advanced Institute Certificate.

King says, “I am the only candidate for mayor that has the experience, the expertise, the knowledge, to lead Irmo forward, not backwards”.

Hardy King is the owner of a local Irmo business that is still open and operating today. He has used that experience to keep Irmo’s town budget in the black, and also brought about changes to put the Okra Strut Festival out of the red and into the black. 

King says, “Serving is very hard, you can’t make everyone happy, that is impossible. But doing what is right is always the right thing, even when it’s not popular.
