Residents of Irmo enjoyed National Night Out August 1, in the Community Park of Irmo. More than 350 town folks showed up for the refreshments and fun which included hot dogs and beverages and a bouncy house for the kids.

Irmo Police and Irmo Fire were there with cruisers and fire trucks along with the National Guard Humvee and battle gear. Texas Roadhouse Armadillo entertained the children and local politicians met with the public.

S.C. Representative James Smith was at the event. Smith is a Captain in the S.C. Army National Guard who served in Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. He attended the event as part of an input tour focused on issues facing local law enforcement.

Irmo Police Department competed with Irmo Fire Department in Battle Bows. The Irmo PD lost both battles.
