Chapin varsity football got its regular season started with a big — but close — win against traditional rival Mid-Carolina last week, and now the Eagles look to a road trip to Lugoff-Elgin this weekend for another chance to post a win.

The Eagles scored all of their points in the first half, and the Rebels scored all of theirs in the second half. They each scored two touchdowns, but the final point-spread reflects Chapin’s field goal in the first half and Mid-Carolina’s failed extra-point attempt after its second TD in the second half.

Somewhat characteristic of a closely-fought rivalry game.

This week at Lugoff-Elgin the Eagles will face a young Demon team still looking for its first win. L-E scored two touchdowns in its first two games, but allowed big points against its defense.

The Demons lost to Westwood 53-14 in Game One, and to Camden 47-14 last week.

If the Eagles allow the young Demons to get loose in the second half without a response — think Rebels last week — they may be in trouble. But don’t necessarily expect that to happen.

Chapin could very well post win No. 2 to the record this week, but only time will tell.

It’s Chapin at Lugoff-Elgin Friday at 7:30 pm, and the junior varsity teams will play at Chapin at 6:30 pm today, Thursday.
