With the regular season now history, District Five varsity football teams prepare for this week’s first round of the 2017 playoffs as other teams prepare to wrap the season in state finals competition.

The Eagles completed the regular season last week at 7-3, 3-1 with the 29-17 non-conference win against Airport and will start the playoffs at home Friday against the Crestwood Knights (7-5, 2-2), the No.3 lower state seed from Region VI-4A.

Chapin will play as the No. 2 seed out of Region V-4A, Lower Richland (5-5, 3-1) plays as the No. 1 seed from the region, Dreher (7-3, 3-1) is seeded No. 3, and Orangeburg-Wilkinson (3-7, 1-3) will play as the No. 4 seed out of the region.

The winner of the Chapin/Crestwood first round will advance to the November 10 second round against the winner of the North Myrtle Beach/Colleton County game.

After the 49-0 win against Irmo to wrap-up the regular season last week at 8-1, 6-0, the Silver Foxes will open the postseason games at home against Stratford (2-8, 2-5) on Friday. Stratford’s Knights are seeded at No. 6 out of the eight-team Region VII-5A lower state group, while Dutch Fork is the top seed from Region V-5A, a seven-team conference.

The winner of this one advances to the second round November 10 to take on the winner of the West Florence/Ashley Ridge game. Dutch Fork will have the advantage against the visiting Knights as the 5A defending state champion Silver Foxes set out on their postseason journey in an attempt to replicate last year’s results.

After the season finale loss to the visiting Silver Foxes last week, Irmo completed the regular season at 6-4, 2-4 and carries that count into the first round matchup against the Green Wave (7-2, 6-1) at Summerville. Irmo plays as the No. 4 seed from Region V-5A, while Summerville is the No. 2 seed out of Region VII-5A.

The winner of this one will advance to the November 10 second round against the winner of the Sumter/White Knoll first round game. The Yellow Jackets will be challenged on the road this week, but with game results produced in their pre-region matchups (4-0), this one could be anybody’s game.
